Airplane cabin sounds

Updated 22 October 2026

The inside of an airplane is surprisingly loud, around 80 decibels, but many people fall asleep there instantly. The sound is a deep, even roar of air and engines. These are real cabin recordings from flights, played softly for sleeping at home.

How to set it up

  1. Press Play on Airplane cabin.
  2. Keep it much quieter than a real cabin. You only need the feeling, not the volume.

Airplane white noise

Cabin noise is mostly low: air rushing over the fuselage and the hum of engines. It is close to brown noise with a tonal hum, which is why it feels so heavy and soothing.

Questions

Why do people sleep well on planes?
