Heartbeat sound

Updated 22 October 2026

A slow heartbeat is one of the first sounds we ever hear. A calm, steady lub-dub can soothe a newborn, settle a puppy in a new home, and help an anxious adult slow their breathing. This is a real heartbeat recording, beating about 61 times a minute and keeps perfect time.

How to set it up

  1. Press Play on Heartbeat.
  2. For a newborn, play Womb, which puts the heartbeat inside a muffled whoosh.
  3. For a puppy, place the speaker near the crate at a low volume.
  4. For yourself, breathe in for four beats and out for six.

Why a heartbeat is calming

A resting heartbeat is slow and regular. We tend to match our breathing and movement to rhythms around us, so a slow beat nudges us toward calm. For babies, it is a sound they heard for months before birth.

Heartbeat for puppies

A new puppy has just left its littermates and mother. A heartbeat near the crate can make the first nights easier. Stuffed toys with a heartbeat inside work on the same idea.
