Heavy rain sounds

Updated 22 October 2026

Heavy rain is rain sound turned all the way up: dense, loud, and full. It covers more than light rain does, so it is good for noisy streets, thin walls, and a snoring partner. The mix below is a downpour with a little wind and thunder far away.

How to set it up

  1. Press Play on Heavy rain.
  2. If the thunder is too much, open it in the sound masker and turn it off.
  3. Raise the Noise layer if you want an even steadier bed under the rain.

Heavy rain vs light rain

Light rain has space between the drops, so you hear individual taps. Heavy rain fills in those gaps until it becomes a roar. That roar is what covers other sounds. Light rain is more relaxing to listen to; heavy rain is better at hiding noise.

Questions

Is heavy rain better for sleep than light rain?

If you have noise to cover, yes. In a quiet room, lighter rain may feel calmer.
