Rain sounds for sleeping
Updated 22 October 2026
Rain is the most searched sleep sound for good reason. It is dense enough to cover household noise, but it has a gentle movement that white noise lacks. The rain here is real, recorded on quiet rural nights and on a tile roof, and played from random points so it never repeats. Pick a kind of rain below and set the timer.
Press play
Play opens the sound masker with this mix already loaded, so you can hear it and shape it.
How to set it up
- Press Play on Rain for steady rain with a soft rumble.
- For more cover, use Heavy rain. For a cozy sound, use Rain on a tin roof.
- Turn Thunder down or off for sleep. Even soft thunder can wake light sleepers.
- Set the timer, or leave it on all night at a low volume.
Why rain sounds help you sleep
Rain spreads its energy across a wide range, like pink noise, so it covers voices and traffic well. It is also a sound we link with shelter: you are inside, it is outside, there is nothing to do. That feeling is a large part of why rain is so relaxing at night.
Rain that never loops
A ten-hour rain video is usually a few minutes of recording looped. A drip or a car that repeats can become the only thing you hear. Here, several real rain recordings are cut at random points and crossfaded, so there is no loop to notice. It sounds a little different every minute.
Rain sounds for anxiety and study
The same steady rain works for a racing mind and for focus. For anxiety, add brown noise underneath. For study, keep thunder off and the volume just over the room.
