Ocean sounds for sleep

Updated 22 October 2026

The ocean has a rhythm no other sound has: a slow rise and fall that matches calm breathing. That is why waves are so good for falling asleep and for anxiety. The waves here swell and fade every 10 to 15 seconds, with a little wind off the water.

How to set it up

  1. Press Play on Ocean for slow waves and a light wind.
  2. For bigger surf and a few seagulls, play Beach.
  3. To relax before sleep, play Breathing waves and breathe in as each wave rises, out as it falls.

Why ocean sounds help you sleep

Waves are a slow, regular change in volume. Following them slows your breathing a little, which settles the body. The low wash of the water also covers household sounds like a soft brown noise.

Waves crashing vs gentle waves

Crashing surf is louder and covers more noise, but the peaks can be sudden. Gentle waves are better for sleep. The Ocean mix is gentle; the Beach mix has more crash.
