Water sounds: babbling brook and stream
Updated 22 October 2026
Running water is lively and steady at the same time. A brook gurgles and bubbles over stones, never quite the same, but never surprising. It is one of the most relaxing sounds there is, and it covers voices well. The brook here is a real forest stream recorded up close, with a gurgling river underneath, both played from random points so they never settle into a pattern.
Press play
Play opens the sound masker with this mix already loaded, so you can hear it and shape it.
How to set it up
- Press Play on Babbling brook.
- For a fuller sound, play Waterfall, or raise Waterfall under the stream.
- For sleep, open it in the sound masker and turn the birds off.
Water sounds for sleep
Water sounds work like pink noise with movement. A stream at a low volume is a good alternative for people who find noise or a fan boring.
Water sounds for tinnitus
Many people with tinnitus prefer water to noise. A stream has energy in the high middle where ringing often sits, but it sounds natural. See the tinnitus page for a setup.
